Journalist
A freelance journalist for almost 20 years, Paul has been published in most quality UK national newspapers. He produces a weekly column for The Independent’s personal finance section. His work has also appeared in the Financial Times, The Times, the Irish Times, the Sunday Times, the Mail on Sunday, the Independent on Sunday and the Express.
Paul is a recognised expert on public service management, financial management and accountancy. He is contributing news editor of Accounting & Business and is published regularly in Public Finance, Local Government Chronicle, Pathfinder Business, Health Service Review and Public Eye. Paul is a columnist for Co-operative News. His work has been published in more than a hundred magazines.
Copywriter
Paul has a long experience as a copywriter, particularly for public sector clients. He has written detailed case studies, annual reports and conference reports for a variety of organisations. Paul produces a regular newsletter for the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy. Other current copywriting clients include the Audit Commission, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, the North West Public Sector Review Group and Unison. Recent and past clients include the Improvement & Development Agency, Partnerships UK, KPMG, the Department of Health, the London Development Agency, the East Midlands Development Agency, Regeneration East Midlands and the Central Office of Information.
Broadcaster
Paul is a frequent contributor to BBC Radio Foyle and Radio Ulster. He has also appeared on the Today Programme, the World Tonight, Newsnight, the Jeremy Vine Show (on Radio 5), the Laurie Anderson Programme, on Channel Four and on regional BBC and ITV programmes. Paul has court reported for BBC Radio Leicester and Leicester Sound. He has also worked as a researcher for Channel Four’s Despatches.

Paul edited a quarterly magazine for Northern Ireland’s Social Economy Agency. He is news editor of a monthly accountancy magazine.
Social enterprise consultant
Paul has a history in the co-operative and social enterprise movement going back three decades. Before becoming a journalist, Paul was an advisor to workers’ co-operative businesses. He continues to undertake consultancy projects for social enterprise clients on an occasional basis.
Media consultant
Paul is available to undertake one-off projects, advising clients how to improve their media profile. Paul has ghostwritten and placed articles in the national and specialist press for several clients, including the Audit Commission, the Social Economy Agency and the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action.
